Let the air currents guide you on a hang gliding trip around Victoria. The flight principle is pretty much the same as with a bird, so you’ll have to trust your wings and learn how to use warm thermal updrafts to keep you aloft.
During the warmer months, Mount Buffalo in north east Victoria is a haven for hang gliders, paragliders and microlight aircraft. Head left after lift off to take advantage of the house thermals rising from the rock face, or go right to enjoy ridge soaring over Little Buffalo. Undulating hills spread out beneath you, meeting the blue skies of the horizon for a view that is unforgettable.
Take in the crisp air over Victoria’s alpine regions on a paragliding adventure in the high country. Push off from Mystic Hill in the early morning or late afternoon to catch the gentle force of rising thermals reflecting off nearby spurs. Midday in summer sees updrafts too strong for paragliders, so you should time your flight to avoid them.
Coastal soaring is at its best over the Great Ocean Road and the Mornington Peninsula. Launch from Moggs Creek and enjoy the fantastic gliding conditions produced by the cliffs around Aireys Inlet combined with favourable air currents. The breakers look like thin white lines from up here, a view you won’t want to miss.
