The Northern Territory has an area of approximately 1.35 million km2, covering about one sixth of the nation. Most of the Territory lies within the tropics, and it is generally a uniformly flat state.

The Territory has over 6000km of coastline, stretching across the top of Australia, and home to many of Australia’s deadliest wildlife including crcocodiles and box jellyfish.

The state offers a great contrast in landscapes from mangroves, swamps and mudflats through to harsh desert vistas and barren rocky gullies.

Litchfield National Park, only two hours from Darwin, offers lush tropical rainforests and spectacular waterfalls with spectacular scenery around every corner.

The Macdonnell Ranges cross from East to West, reaching 600m high at their peaks. Uluru (Ayers Rock) at 348m high seems to rise out of the red dust as testament to the history and mystery of the heart of Australia.

The northern part of the state – the ‘Top End’ offers rainforests, woodlands and a tropical environment in contrast to the arid desert which makes up most of the Territory.

Aboriginal history and folklore is found in every corner of the Territory. Take the time to learn the culture, lore and traditions of this magnificent land during your stay. Aboriginal sites, programs and displays are available in most locations to let you learn about as well as experience this amazing land.
