Feel the weight of your body disappear as you are pushed into the air over South Australia. Coastal ridge lifts and inland thermals let you hang in the sky like a bird, giving you the chance to see things from an enviable perspective.
Ride the air currents of the coast around Adelaide. Strap your glider onto the roof rack and take a tour of the many launch sites along the beaches. Head south for around 45 minutes and you’ll reach Myponga, which will give you a lift from winter through to spring. A bit further along is a favourite – Tunkalilla, flyable during the warmer months. Travel the line where the ocean meets the land, and take in the breathtaking views of South Australia’s changing coastal scenery.
Further inland, you can ride the reliable thermals of Peeralilla. Beneath you roll the hills and farmlands of the area, and the south of this kilometre long ridge overlooks beautiful Victor Harbour. You may need to ask for a tow to get up in the air, but once you do it’s definitely worth it.
Along the Murray you’ll find warm thermals to lift you into the sky at Renmark. The flat, dry conditions make it perfect for flying and from your high vantage point you can see the winding river cut through the land. Locals here have a passion for flight, and will take you up in all manner of flying contraptions!
