The Northern Territory’s national parks are the place to go for abseiling adventure. Drop down over some of the most stunning descents you’re likely to come across, and experience the thrill of trusting your weight to the thin rope that dangles you over the edge. You should always make sure you check out the local area before you push off since much of the state is protected, and abseiling is restricted in some areas.

Change into your wetsuit for a refreshing abseil down a waterfall. Litchfield National Park is a beautiful area of lush green vegetation that stands out against the red earth. And it has tall waterfalls. This is the perfect way to cool off in the Northern Territory, if you’re just a little adventure mad! Rappel down forty metre gorges lined by ferns, vines and leafy trees. At the bottom you may find a sandy beach to take a rest on after your long drop down the slippery rocks.

For a really special abseiling experience, descend the cliffs at Emily Gap in the Heavitree Ranges near Alice Springs. Accessible only by foot, this part of the land belongs to the Aboriginal people of the area who have given special permission for abseiling down Emily. Extra care must be taken here not to disturb the natural environment, and you should make sure you go with a commercial operator that has a special permit to enter this area.
