When camping your way around Australia, you’re following one of the oldest traditions in the country. And the cheapest! This is a great way to go if you don’t have much to spend on accommodation or if you’re looking for a bit of adventure. You’ll find everything from established camping grounds with every modern convenience, to hidden away sites in the middle of nowhere with nothing more than a hole in the ground!
You’ll find campsites close to just about every town and attraction on the map. For some, this isn’t really ‘camping out’, even though you might need a tent. These sites usually have toilets, a laundry and perhaps a kiosk. Further a field, you can often camp in the protected areas of national and state forest around the country. These sites don’t have the facilities of the ones closer to towns and attractions, but if you want to really get out into nature, they’re the only way to go.
Guided camping tours and safaris are available in most states, and are particularly popular throughout the vast open areas of the Northern Territory and Western Australia. They’re a great way to find the best spots, and apart from that, you won’t get lost!
