The art of throwing yourself from a great height with nothing to break your fall but a thin rope didn’t originates from a tradition of the Pentecost Islands, where manhood is proven by jumping from thirty five metre towers with a vine tied around the ankles. Bungee Jumping is now a recreational activity which has spread worldwide. Thrill seekers around the world jump off an elevated place with one end of an elastic cord attached to the body and the other tied to the jumping off point. The jump is a great adrenalin rush!

Bungee jumping in the western world may not prove ones manhood as it did in the Pentecost Islands, but many people out there are looking for the huge adrenaline rush! Of course, you’ll be equipped with a strong elastic bungee cord for your jump, not a jungle vine! Safety records for bungee jumps is much higher than in the original version of the sport from the Pentecost Islands.

There are a heap of variations on the standard jump, so you can go tandem with your best mate, ride your bike over the platform, take the plunge at night or even in the nude! The reverse bungee, or slingshot, is becoming increasingly popular. This is where you’re catapulted into the air at eighty kilometres an hour, suspended in the air for a few seconds before the bungee cords bounce you back down to earth! Then there’s the bungee trampoline, which lets you know what it must be like for a grasshopper!

Take the plunge and dive off a bungee tower for the thrill of your life!
