Modern & Unique – Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands with an area of 707 sq km located in the Arabian Gulf off the coast of Saudi Arabia. Its name comes from the largest island, Bahrain, 586 sq km in size. The nation has many other islands – but they’re primarily uninhabited and home to migrating birds during the spring and fall.

The official language here is Arabic, but donÂ’t let that scare you as English is generally understood and used for business. Like other nations in the area, Islam is the religion here, but other faiths and places to worship exist here.

This gulf state is hot in the summer and mild during the winter. The best time to visit is from November to April when the temperatures are a pleasing 15 to 24 degrees centigrade. It’s typically coolest between December and March – from July to September expect high humidity and temperatures around 36 degrees Celsius.

Once inland, the central area is low and barren limestone rock covered with sand. The highest point is Jabel Dukhan, 134m above sea level. It is this area where most of the oil wells are located in this wealthy nation.

Despite being Arab, the country offers an interesting mix between eastern and western cultures. YouÂ’ll find a lot of other contrast including modern skyscrapers mixed with mode traditional buildings and historical sites. With the contrast of cultures youÂ’ll find the nation welcoming. Many hotels & restaurants combined with BahrainÂ’s charm attract many regional and international tourists.

There are many unique and interesting places to visit including the ancient Barbar Temple, burial mounds, the National Museum, and The Portuguese Fort. YouÂ’ll find plenty of golf and wildlife parks here. So shopping and hunt for bargains at an Arabic souk or visit one of the modern malls. Check out the Hawar Islands Resort -- get wet, enjoy the water and try canoeing, snorkelling, and water skiing, amongst other activities.

Getting to Bahrain

Most international visitors arrive by air into Bahrain International Airport (BAH). The airport is well served with non-stop flights from other nations in the region, Europe, and Asia.
