South Australia’s climate is relatively temperate, with hot, dry summers and cool winters with relatively mild night temperatures.

Adelaide's average daily maximum temperature in January is 29°C, and in July 15°C.

South Australia is Australia’s driest state, with rainfall only truly reliable in the south east. Most rainfall occurs during May to August, with an annual rainfall of 530mm. Over 80% of the state only receives an average of less than 250mm of rain annually.

Snow can be found on Mt Lofty every few years, and some parts of this region receive snowfall with strong cold fronts once or twice each decade.
