It may come as a surprise, but there is a fair amount of history wound up in the Tasmanian pub. Not only does the island state boast the oldest pub in the country (sorry New South Wales), but the city of Melbourne was actually planned in a pub in Launceston. The people of Hobart are known for their hospitality, so you’ll be well looked after wherever you go.
Mostly located on the waterfront, Hobart pubs offer a great view as well as a great drink. In the old days it was town of rowdy whalers and seafarers, and while they might be long gone, the pubs built to accommodate them still stand. You can find them on almost every corner, and if you want a bit of history thrown into the bargain you can go on a guided tour of the old drinking spots. Try a locally brewed beer while staring out over Sullivan’s Cove or Sandy Bay.
While Tassie isn’t known for its nightclubs, it does have a bit of a reputation for great DJ’s. You might have to hunt around a bit, but the search is well worth it when you find a club pumping out the best dance tunes around.
