Buses
Perth and it’s suburbs are well connected by Transperth buses. Tickets are valid for one and a half hours and can be used on all Transperth buses, trains and ferries. Buses run daily from 6am to 11.30pm with reduced services on weekends and public holidays, and a late night service operates from the city along the train lines.
For further information contact the Transperth Infoline on 13 62 13.
CAT Buses
Getting around the city of Perth is easy and free if you use the Central Area Transit (CAT) Buses. These are colour coded and provide a great way to see the city and travel the inner-city suburbs. CAT buses service the central city area including West Perth and Northbridge, and provide easy access for wheel-chairs and prams.
Red CAT buses travel in an east-west loop through the central business district (CBD), taking passengers from East Perth to West Perth. The Blue CAT buses travel in a north-south loop, taking passengers south to the Busport and north into Northbridge. A Fremantle CAT provides service in the Fremantle city area.
Trains
Transperth provides a quick and easy train service running from the Perth City station to Fremantle, Midland, Armadale and Currambine. All services originate at Perth Station and run between 5.20am and midnight weekdays, later on weekends.
An all-stops service from the city to any of these stations takes approximately 40 minutes. Express services run during peak hours, and services are reduced on weekends and public holidays.
Ticket prices are determined by the number of zones travelled, with concessions for students and pensioners. An adult 2-zone fare is currently $2.80.
A daily country rail service is operated by Westrail between Perth-Bunbury and Perth-Kalgoorlie. For more information and bookings call Westrail on 13 62 13.
Ferries
A regular ferry service operates across the Swan River from the Barrack Street Jetty in Perth to the Mends Street Jetty in South Perth (a short stroll from the Perth Zoo), between 6.45am and 7.15pm.
Several commercial ferry services operate around Perth, providing a range of services including river cruises and Rottnest Island trips. These services operate from the Barrack Street Jetty, Rous Heads in North Fremantle, East Street Jetty in East Fremantle and Hillarys Boat Harbour in Perth’s northern suburbs. To find the location of these ferries turn to the Fast Fact File chapter for maps of Perth and Fremantle.
Taxis
Perth is serviced by a variety of meter operated taxi companies. Taxi ranks are situated throughout the central city area and in Fremantle, or they can be ordered by telephone. Taxi drivers can also be hired for personal tours of Perth.
Passengers with disabilities can utilise a special taxi service by calling 9333 3377. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is recommended that you book 24 hours in advance.
