A frontier city in the province of Misiones, this city draws many tourists for one of the most spectacular sights in Argentina. The Tancredo Neves International Bridge here links Argentina with Brazil.
Just 18km from Puerto Iguaza, the Iguazu Falls are miraculous natural wonder of the Iguazu River. The falls also border with the Brazilian state of Parana and can be seen from each country. Remarkably larger than North America’s Niagara Falls, Iguazu is only rivalled by Victoria Falls in South Africa.
Shared by Iguazu National Park of Argentina and Iguacu National Park of Brazil, these parks are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. There are two main towns on each side of the falls. Puerto Iguazu in Argentina and Fox do Iguacu in Brazil. Other attractions near the falls are the Itaipu hydroelectric power plant and the Jesuit Missions of the Guaranis.
The hours of Iguazu National Park are 8am to 6pm and you cannot enter the park outside of operating hours. Luckily, there are hotels in the park allowing you to beat the crowds. While most of the falls are in Argentina, Garganta del Diablo on the Brazilian side is an excellent place to view the falls.
As there is an international border crossing at the falls, it is important to have your passport and any necessary documentation including Visas to pass between the countries.
The city has Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport (IGR), which is the gateway to Iguazu Falls. One may get here from Buenos Aires and other major cities in the region.
