The Bahamas

700 islands and cays known as The Bahamas are just a hop, skip, and a jump from the east coast of Florida in the mainland United States. Nassau, the capital city is located on New Paradise Island. The next largest island is Grand Bahama where you’ll find the city of Freeport.

You’re certain to find many things to do on a trip to the Bahamas with all of the hotels & resorts, casinos, and beaches. With beaches & water there are many water sports as well as activities including snorkelling and scuba diving.

Take a stroll into Nassau and you’ll find many places to visit including The Queen’s Staircase, which happens to be the most visited attraction. Visit Parliament Square where you’ll see many examples of Old Nassau and the flamingo-pink government buildings. Bay Street is a must in the capital city - this is Nassau’s main street with many historical buildings, shops, pubs, and restaurants.

Grand Bahama Island is another popular choice among tourists. Lucayan National Park awaits you; here you’ll encounter upland forests, rare flower species, mangrove creeks, and a spectacular beach. If you love nature you’ll love the Rand Nature Centre, named after philanthropist James H. Rand. Grab a boat and make your way Peterson Cay National Park where you’ll find spectacular coral reefs and get snorkelling and diving.

How about some shopping on Grand Bahama? The International Bazaar is a 10 acre complex of shops and restaurants with an international theme representing different regions of the world. Port Lucaya Marketplace located on the waterfront is a must visit, it’s authentic Bahamian and has over 65 retail shops and you’ll locate many tour operators here where you can plan your activities.

Getting to The Bahamas

Most major US carriers provide service into Nassau and many carriers also provide service to Grand Bahama Island. There are also several cruise ships, which set sail from Florida.
