New Zealand, the nation that brought us bungy jumping, is also responsible for the Zorb! And as the birthplace of the Zorb it’s only right that the first permanent Zorbing site was setup in Rotorua.
So now we all know that Kiwi's have a perculiar sense of fun, so just what exactly is Zorbing all about? Officially Zorbing involves people, known as zorbonauts, rolling down an incline in a large inflatable, usually transparent, double-hulled sphere made from PVC. In reality the end effect is that they look like Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man rolling down a hill in a large bubble.
Like bungy jumping Zorbing is rapidly becoming a popular activity around the world. There are a few different variations in Zorbing you may want to try including Harness Zorbing, Hydro-Zorbing and Zylinder. Zorbing has been highlighted on television programmes including MTV’s “Road Rules” and one of our favourites here at Extreme Tourist, CBS’s “The Amazing Race” with Phil Keoghan, also from New Zealand.
New Zealand has brought us many great things. When you visit New Zealand, Get ready, jump into an air-cushioned ball, strap yourself in and go Zorbing!
