Located in the southwest United States, the Nevada landscape ranges from mountains in the Sierra Nevada to desert.  The southern part of Nevada is within the Mojave Desert while large areas of northern & central Nevada are in the Great Basin Desert.  Carson City is the state capital.

Las Vegas Area & Lake Meade

The state's largest city, Las Vegas, well known for its world class casinos is also one of the fastest growing in the United States.

Just outside of Las Vegas you'll find the Colorado River, Hoover Dam, and Lake Meade. Lake Meade is man made and was created with the formation of Hoover Dam on the Colorado River.  The Lake Meade National Recreation Area offers year-round activities including boating along with water sports from water skiing to swimming.

Reno/Tahoe Area

The second largest city outside of the Las Vegas area is Reno, also a gamblers haven but on a much smaller scale than Las Vegas.  Near Reno is Lake Tahoe on the California border in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. As Lake Tahoe crosses into California, gambling is only legal in Nevada and Tahoe also hosts a number of casinos.

Lake Tahoe is beautiful year round and is a great place for water sports in the summer.  Hiking and Mountain Biking is popular with many trails in the area.  The best known, The Tahoe Rim Trail, is 165 miles and circles the lake. During the winter, the Tahoe area hosts a variety of ski resorts including Squaw Valley, Heavenly, and Alpine Meadows.

Nevada & prostitution

The state is unique as under Nevada law, if a county has fewer than 400,000 residents it is allowed to license brothels.  There are approximately 25 brothels in Nevada, including the Chicken Ranch and the Moonlight Bunny Ranch. Prostitution is Illegal outside of licensed brothels in Nevada which are strictly regulated.

It is important to note that prostitution is ILLEGAL in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas and Washoe County which includes Reno.  Brothels & prostitution are also ILLEGAL in Douglas County, Lincoln County, Eureka County, and Carson City.  Please note laws do change.

Getting to and around Nevada

Interstate 15 starts in the Los Angeles area and goes through the Las Vegas area and up to Salt Lake City.  Interstate 80 runs from coast to coast in the United States.  I-80 goes through Reno and crosses the northern half of the state. State roads connect the major cities in the state.

To reach Nevada by air, Las Vegas McCarran International (LAS) makes a great gateway for the south while Reno/Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is a gateway for the north.
