Rottnest Island is an A Class Reserve and boasts some of the best beaches and bays in the world. At only 11km long and 4.5km wide it is easy to explore, but still offers secluded locations for those who want to escape and enjoy the environment in peace.

Vehciles are kept to a minimum on the island for official use only, so explore by foot or cycle and enjoy the stunning scenery and fantastic aquatic pursuits that Rottonest is famous for.

Rottnest has a fascinating history as an Aboriginal penal settlement, an internment camp during both World Wars, and is integral to the history and identity of Perth. Old battlements and architecture can be explored, and extensive information is available for history enthusiasts.

Rottnest Island is best-known as home to quokkas – small wallaby-like marsupials which will eat from your hand if given the chance, but as this is not good for their diet visitors are asked not to feed them - they manage well enough on their own. In fact they are often found exploring chalets if a door is left open, looking for food. These adorable creatures are protected and add a unique touch to your island visit.
