South Australia is one of the most environmentally diverse places in Australia and you can see it all on safari. Enjoy wildlife sightings, bushwalks, and scenic landscapes, while you learn about astronomy, geology, Aboriginal traditions and the local flora and fauna. From the deserts of the north, to the rugged mountain ranges further south to the green wine country, you’ll have a great time exploring the endless realms of this state’s natural wonders.
For something really different, travel through the state by camel. These Arabian creatures have a long history in Australia, and now you have the chance to let them take you to parts of the country that remain largely unexplored.
You’ll find some of the best scenery and walking trails around in the Flinders Ranges, so why not take a guided walking safari through the area? Not only do paths take you past spectacular gorges and beautiful outback scenery, they also wind past sites of Aboriginal significance. The area is steeped in mythology, and you’ll find examples of Aboriginal rock art in many areas along walking tracks here.
Take a four wheel drive tour into the Simpson Desert. Travel the Oodnadatta Track, and see the vast red dunes running north and south along the track, as well as the salt pans that attract an abundance of wildlife. At night, you can camp out under the stars, where you’ll be treated to skies that are clear of the bright city lights. This allows you to see the stars in all their glory, and you’ll be amazed at the vividness of the night sky in the outback.
