Share the air with a variety of thermal-seeking adventurers on a hang glider flight over the Northern Territory. Here you’ll find an array of gliders, microlights, trikes and paragliders hanging around to catch the next updraft.
There may not be too many hills to run down in the Red Centre, so why not try a powered hang glider? Even if you just use the engine to get you off the ground, trikes are a great variation on the traditional non-powered hang glider. Climb to your chosen height, then cut the engine and ride the warm thermals bouncing off the flat, red earth below.
A favourite aerial scene is the MacDonnell Ranges. Run your trike down the Bond Springs Airstrip and head south in the early morning or just as the sun goes down. Explore the whole area around Alice Springs, landing on one of the numerous out-strips that are easily accessible by road.
The abandoned World War Two airstrips scattered between Darwin and Tennant Creek make perfect landing zones for trikes. If you can manage it, seeing this area from the air after heavy rainfall is truly spectacular. The red earth comes to life with green vegetation and since many of the roads may be flooded, an aerial perspective could be the only way to view it in all its splendour.
