The landscape of Victoria is as varied as the weather around here. The national parks here provide protection for dense rainforests, mountain ranges and beautiful coastal environments. This is a good thing for hikers, since there are plenty of places to test out you walking shoes.

The Grampians National park is a favourite destination for those wanting to forget about busy city life. Take a few days off and head out on one of the many walking trails that take you past high-walled canyons and magnificent sandstone formations. There are plenty of campsites around, and many of them are close to a fresh water supply. There are over a thousand flowering plants here, so if you’re a wildflower buff you might want to visit in springtime.

Victoria is known for its beautiful coastal scenes, and the Wildlife Coast Nature Trail is the best way to see it all. The walk stretches over 300 kilometres of the coast, and takes you through five national parks. It’s actually made up of several smaller trails, so you can relax if you’ve only got a couple of days!

The Victorian Alps are truly a wonder. In summer you’ll find the ground covered in a carpet of colourful wildflowers, while in winter it’s covered by a blanket of think white snow. The Alpine National Park’s highest peak is Mount Bogong. The Mount Bogong Circuit begins at Falls Creek, and takes you past great views of snow gum woodlands and alpine herb fields. You might want to bring the woollies though; it can get a bit cool!
