Boating in the Northern Territory takes you to some spectacular places, from the tropical coast to the river networks that cut through the dry plains.
Discover beautiful Darwin Harbour from the water when you charter a luxury vessel for the afternoon. You’ll float around for a few hours before sunset, when you can see the sky change from blue to red as the sun dips over the horizon.
Imagine floating through the water system of Kakadu National Park in a small dingy, looking out at some of the most magnificent scenery in the world. Exploring the rivers, creeks and billabongs of this precious patch of earth is truly amazing, though you’ll need to make sure boating is permitted before you launch your boat. Some places are dangerous, and you’ll need to watch out for tidal variations and crocodiles!
Some would say the only reason to go boating in the Northern Territory is for the fishing. Charter operators will take you to the best fishing spots all around the coast of the Top End, where the catch of the day is always a big barramundi!
No overview of the Northern Territory boating experience would be complete without mentioning the Henley-on-Todd. This regatta down the Todd River happens every year, despite the fact that the nearest body of water is 1500 kilometres away! Participants paddle through the sand in a variety of bottomless boats, with the grand finale being the ‘sea’ battle between the Vikings and the Pirates.
