Back in the sixties when go karting exploded in Australia, local enthusiasts would tear apart their lawnmowers and chainsaws so they could convert the motors into go kart engines. Go karting is still going strong and you can find clubs, tracks, karts for hire and go karting communities in any state of Australia.
This is the least expensive of all motor sports so if you want the adrenaline pumping thrill of formula one racing without the huge financial burden, give go karting a go! These super flat machines slide around the track at unbelievable speeds, and you can choose one to suit your ability.
Great for the whole family, you’ll want to shop around to find a track that suits you. Take the kids to an indoor centre, where the teenagers can have a go on their own and you can take the little ones out for a ride in a double car. Some machines even have a second wheel for them to practice their ‘steering’ skills!
But don’t think that go karts are only for kids! Professional kart drivers reach speeds of up to 170 kilometres per hour on some tracks, though you might want to start out just a little slower. Have a go on a club track and see if go karting is for you. And if it is, you might even want to join up!
