Queensland is home to the tallest sand boarding drops in the country, so strap the board onto the roof rack and head north for the Sunshine State.

You’ll have to leave the mainland if you’re serious about your sand boarding, and head out to either North Stradbroke or Moreton Island. On North Stradbroke, you can catch a ride in a four wheel drive that will take you right to the best spot. Slide your way down into the naturally formed sand bowl overlooking the South Pacific Ocean, either standing, sitting or lying down on your board. There are gentle slopes for beginners, or steeper ones for the more adventurous!

The only way to get to the Tangalooma Dune on Moreton Island is by boat. This massive dune rises 200 metres into the air, and once you’re at the top you’ve got to come back down again somehow! You can reach speeds of up to 65 kilometres an hour coming down this piece of sand on a board, so hold on for the ultimate sand boarding thrill.
