THIS IS THE SEARCH PANEL

With the bottom half of the country coming close to the Antarctic and the north side near the equator, the seas around Australia are a diverse playground of unique marine environments.

The coral reefs of the north are a global attraction, and provide a home for a countless amount of strange and beautiful aquatic creatures. If you’re lucky, you might swim with a Whale Shark, or spy a clown fish as it darts in and out of sea anemones. The giant kelp forests of the south east are a must see. With the strands of weed reaching up to 30 metres in length, swimming amongst them is quite awe inspiring.

The other thing you’ll find around the coast is shipwrecks. Many an ancient mariner found out the hard way that the coast of Terra Australis could be a very dangerous place for an unwary seaman. There are many historic wrecks like this, but mostly you’ll find ships that have been blown apart or sunk on purpose as diving and snorkelling attractions. In the north you’ll find wrecks from world war two and even some that remain from the Cyclone Tracy disaster of 1974. These ships now provide shelter for a variety of fish and other colourful marine animals.

Whether you’re deep sea diving or snorkelling on the surface, Australia’s coast provides endless undersea wonders for you to explore. You never know what you’ll find below the surface, so dive right in!
