Surf’s up! If catching a ride on the best breaks around is your thing, then you won’t want to miss the surf around Sydney’s beaches. People come from all corners of the earth to surf the east coast, so strap on a wetsuit and paddle out into the glassy blue waves of some of the most pristine beaches on earth.
South of the harbour you’ll find a stretch of beach that is just irresistible. White sands line the shore all the way down to Cronulla, and some of the world’s clearest water can be found here. Bondi is the closest beach to the city, and as with most Sydney beaches it’s less the half an hour from the city centre. It’s is one of Sydney’s most prized strips of sand, and has something for everyone. Big waves attract surfers from everywhere, while a safe swimming hole can be found at the Bondi Baths on the southern rocks.
The Northern Beaches stretch thirty kilometres from Sydney Harbour up to Palm Beach, and are a must for tourists wanting to experience some genuine Aussie beach culture or just some truly spectacular views. The sand changes from white to gold as you travel north, displaying all the colours of the beautiful east coast.
