A vast network of waterways extends across the great country of Australia. Set amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, touring from this perspective offers a very different experience of the Land Down Under. Whether you prefer a peaceful paddle over coral reefs, or want to brave the white water rapids of a churning river, you’ll find your niche in the waterways of Australia.
Kayaking over coral reefs and unique marine environments is fast becoming a favourite way to see the Aussie coastline. You’ll discover secluded coves and inlets that are inaccessible by land, and see some exceptional marine life as you paddle over the clear waters of areas like the Whitsundays or the scenic regions of the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Inland canoeing also offers a great way to see parts of the wilderness that you can’t get to on foot or by car. Rivers wind their way through the most picturesque areas of the country, from forests to red ochre cliff faces to towering mountains. Many rivers pass through protected areas, and provide life to a diversity of plant life as well as many native creatures. Canoes are silent, and are a great way to get up close to this usually hidden world.
There are some fantastic white water rapids around the country, mostly around the east coast and south west. After heavy rainfall in winter, flooding causes rivers to swell to bursting point, and is the best time to come if you’re after a wild water ride. Crashing through rainforests, gorges, mountain ranges or granite outcrops atop a raft will really get your blood pumping.
