THIS IS THE SEARCH PANEL

With an estimated one million plant and animal species dotted around the place, Australia is one of only twelve ‘mega diverse’ countries on the planet.

On the line-up are some of the most strange and wonderful creatures you will find anywhere. Australia is home to the only egg-laying mammal in the world – the platypus – and of course, such well known icons as the koala, kangaroo and emu.

If you look closer, you might be surprised to find some less well known, but equally astounding beasts, creepy-crawlies or critters. Go no further than the tropical rainforests of north Queensland to find the only home of the Golden Bowerbird, or Rottnest Island, where the quokka is still commonly found.

Stop in at one of the numerous zoos, animal centres or wildlife parks for a close up look at some of the local inhabitants as well as some international guests. Or you could brave the outdoors and have a truly special encounter in the natives’ natural habitat.

Whether you are staring into the jaws of a saltwater croc in the Top End, or having an intimate interaction with a Queensland butterfly, you’ll find the beauty and diversity of Australia’s native wildlife unforgettable.
