It was a great race, but The Amazing Race 9 is finished! It started in the mile high city of Denver, went to Brazil, over to Russia, Greece, Italy, Germany, Oman ... and it even came to our backyard and playground - Perth, Western Australia.
Fortunately, more excitement is to come with The Amazing Race 10! It's been reported The Amazing Race 10 has finished filming and will air this Fall in the United States with a Sunday 8pm (eastern) timeslot. No word yet with respect to Australia, but I expect the Seven Network will be playing it as well. As with season 9, season 10 will have twelve teams of two, each with an existing relationship. This season we'll be seeing teams comprised of: - Best Friends - Married Parents - a Father/Daughter team - a team of Brothers - one team is Married - and teams who are Dating. The teams this season will include some diversity with an Asian American Team, an Indian American Team, and a Muslim American Team. It's also widely rumoured an open Lesbian will be on one of the teams -- in addition to two former Miss America contestants, Dustin Konzelmam who was Miss California 2005 and Kandace Pelletier, Miss New York 2005. If you're interested in Spoiler information, we'll be starting a seperate spoiler thread. If anyone knows the channel and time The Amazing Race 10 will be airing in other nations, we'd much appreciate it if you could post it here. Here at Extreme Tourist we're avid fans of the Amazing Race, as well as it's host, Phil Keoghan. This upcoming season is certain to be exciting with new destinations and twists to the show! Who is Australia's Urban Legend?
I recieved an email about an ozzy adventure race, similar to the Amazing Race. It's Australia's first Urban adventure series. It's called the Kodak Urban Max and there is an event coming up in Melbourne on the 7th october. Apparently it's a day of adventure racing through the city doing challenges (like abseiling) and figuring out clues. Their web site is www.maxadventure.com.au Check it out! Mark |

Wow, two eliminations in the first Episode!
Some great views of Seattle at the beginning before they make their way to Beijing, China. The team from Kentucky is a real embarassment to the state. They fit the entire stereotype and all. I couldn't believe it when the wife said 'where we come from the husband is the boss and the wife just looks after the kids'. The Miss New York and Miss California are HOT!!! Ben |

Update: I contacted Seven Network Australia and they do not have a release date yet as to when The Amazing Race 10 will be shown.
------ It's certainly an interesting group of teams this season (10). After the series premier, only 10 teams of two left. At the start, it always amazing how many people trip & fall over running to their luggage to get the clues. Was interesting to see the one team that brought the water guns, which the TSA didn't locate, and brought them into the secure area of the terminal. Anyone with common sense would realize they're harmless, but they had a run-in with the SeaTac Airport Police in the United Terminal. I bet there was more behind the scenes that wasn't covered regarding the police and the water guns being used airside in the terminal. Just immagine if it happened after the water ban! I wasn't too surprised at the two eliminations -- Phil did say there would be twists and turns, and different things this season. The Kentucky Team -- it's good to see they're out seeing the world, but shit, they certainly picked a team that best fit the "Kentucky sterotype". The sterotype may hold true in the eastern hills of Kentucky near West Virgina, but hardly represents the state which does have modern cities. They're probably the most disadvantaged of the teams (based on the fact the husband is a coal-miner and their dress -- or lack thereof of decent clothing) and I hope this provides them an opportunity to see the world and learn about other cultures. First to be eliminated was Bilal & Saeed, the Muslim American Team from Cleveland in the surprise elimination at the Forbidden City / Meridian Gate. The first roadblock of eating fish eyes was interesting. I've eaten some exotic foods, but I'm not sure if I'd have the stomach for that. Then Vipul & Arti were eliminated at the pitstop on the Great Wall of China just outside of Beijing. Looks like the next stop is Mongolia! |

The cheerleaders, Kellie & Jamie have been eliminated.
Woah, some of the things out of that lady's mouth from the Kentucky Team... "I've never known an Asian" , etc as they were bonding with the teams. Then they went on to say, "you know what we've never even seen gay people..." and the woman shouts out "and we like em'!" Scary how some folks don't get out of their part of the world. I'm glad they've been given this opportunity, but I have my doubts on how far they'll make it. Hopefully they'll educate their community when they get back. Steve -Louisville, Kentucky |

After last season, I got into the Amazing Race and Love it!
Sad to see the cheerleaders gone Steve, you're right about that team from Kentucky.. I presume you're from Kentucky or in Kentucky at the moment per your signature? I couldn't believe that part where she said "we'd never even seen gay people" ... ROTFLU... I'm sure they have, they're just highly closeted in whatever town they live in!!! Katie |

Katie Hi Katie, Yup, I'm in Louisville, Kentucky. The Kentucky Team really sticks out and they fit the sterotype. Sad thing is, they represent what much of rural eastern Kentucky is like up in the hills. I've heard of areas where no one has even seen a black person before. People tend to be very isolated from the rest of the world in the Eastern Kentucky hills. I hope this doesn't portray Kentucky in a negative manner to people who have never visited here. It's a lovely state with modern cities, great transportation links, and has many highly educated people. Steve |

Looks like The Amazing Race is running late tonight -- I'm not sure if this applies to all CBS markets (Eastern and Central Time at least), but it will be on after 60 Minutes.

No comments yet on last night's episode?
I suppose that makes me the first. That certainly was a twist at the beginning when the teams were not given any money for the leg. I'm curious what airline they used to get from Ulaanbaatar (sp?) to Hanoi. If I remember correctly they went through Beijing, but am curious if they had to fly on an ex-soviet passenger jet to get out of Mongolia? How about Vietnam? I'd be scared to fly on an old soviet Tupolev or an Ilyushin. Hanoi and the Hanoi Hilton (Hoa Lo prison) was difficult for me to watch. My step-father is a Vietnam Vet & spent time there as a POW. Seeing the prison cells got me a little teary. I'm glad they used Senator McCain's flight suit as a clue location and recognized the five years he spent there. I have a lot of respect for Erwin and Goodwin as they took a moment of silence there. The Kentucky team were real gems It was good to see Erwin & Goodwin take first place, especially after they took time for a moment of silence at the Hanoi Hilton to pay respects. Jarrod |

Was at a football game and missed TAR last night.
Who was eliminated, or was this a non-elimination? Where they off to in the next episode? Ben |

I happened to like the twist where they started with no money!
Jarrod - just for the heck of it, I looked at scheduled airline service, and it seems Air China has one daily flight between ULN and PEK (if that is the route they took - wasn't paying attention). Air China, not to be confused with China Air of Taiwan, operates modern Boeing aircraft. Outside of the Commonwealth of Independant States, Cuba, Iran (?) and perhaps a few other nations in Africa, I don't think there are many Tupolev or an Ilyushin aircraft operating. Even eastern European carriers have converted to western fleets with perhaps a few exceptions. When travelling, every once and awhile I'll see a newer model Ilyushin at Heathrow or Dubai flying for one of the ex-Aeroflot CIS carriers or a Tupolev-154 when flying through somewhere like Budapest -- but it really isn't that often that I see one. It's more common to see 727s and DC-9s being operated in out of way places than it is to see ex-soviet planes. Vietnam even has their own carrier with a new, western fleet (Vietnam Airlines) and they operate into cities such as Melbourne. Vietnam is off to a good start at becoming a tourist destination. Back on topic now: Elimination: Duke & Lauren came in last. Surprised this hasn't been mentioned, but it was close: Tom & Terry accepted a ride on a motorbike which was against the rules. They were second to reach the pitstop, but penalized 30 minutes. Next episode will continue with Vietnam from what I understand. I'm surprised there hasn't been a non-elimination yet - nor has there been a super-segment (or whatever you want to call it) which goes two episodes before a pit stop. At some stage they'll make it to Mauritius, Madagascar, and then Kuwait, but I'm not sure in what order. In Europe I believe they visit Spain (Barcelona), France, and Finland. You know how Phil said there will be many twists and turns? I wonder if they might do something like Jump to Europe next, then work down to Mauritius, Madagascar, and Kuwait. In the past they have always gone east-west, this time it's west-east, but who's to say one of the twists and turns might take them to Europe and then have them backtrack? All speculation on my part. Wow, no posts for the recent episodes? You guys slacking off
After Vietnam, Chennai, India, was the next episode. In Chennai one of the roadblocks involved going to Madras Crocodile Bank moving a Crocodile to a new location. This was actually the easier of the two tasks. I loved the part where they had to get their Indian Drivers License, that was a goodie! It still never amazes me everything that comes out of Mary's mouth from Kentucky. They (Kentucky) came in last, but it was a non-elimination. The new twist, they would keep everything unlike previous seasons. Instead, the team had to come in first or face a 30 minute penalty at the Pit Stop. The next leg was in Kuwait City. The city looks incredible. The Cho brothers, Kentucky, and Alabama have formed an alliance as well. At the Kuwait Towers there was a fast forward which team Kentucky took. They came in first place after getting a clue by an oil well fire. Peter & Sarah were eliminated in this leg. I'm looking forward to the next one as they go to Mauritius. I've heard the beauty queens get into an auto accident while in Mauritius as well It looks like Madagascar after Mauritius, I think, then up to Europe. Who will be eliminated next? live4speed P.S. It looks like we'll be getting Amazing Race 11 this spring. I've heard a rumor that #11 is getting ready for production. |
